Marla Bay History Milestones
95th Year – 1930-2025
1864 John Marley acquired the land for a farm and the bay was soon called Marley’s Bay, and later shortened to Marla Bay
1870 Augustus Pray of Glenbrook bought the ranch for back taxes. Cutting of timber began.
1929 Arthur Bourne of the Singer Sewing Machine family bought the meadow and surrounding property
1913 Historic Lincoln Highway passes by an undeveloped Marla Bay
1920’s Marla Bay developed and subdivided
1929 Lot sales begin
1940s Marla Bay Protective Association formed
1950 Army Corps of Engineers allows lot owners to place buoys in Lake with few restrictions
1958 General Improvement District authorized by State of Nevada
1966 Boat Ramp built
1975 Sewer District services
1979 Nevada reduced its authority from high water line to low water line
1990 Boat Ramp extended
2007 Zephyr Cove Properties transferred beach ownership to MBPA
2007 Mapping of a regulated buoy field owned by MPBA with buoys available
to lot owners on an annual fee basis
2021 Beach and Lake access gates
2024 Major damage to lakefront owners’ seawalls and sewer line along beach and lake
2025 Lakefront owners rebuild of seawalls and relocation of sewer lines to Lake Shore Blvd.
